League President Engages Unruly Spectator
The Kitty League had a well earned reputation as being quirky. And this story from August 8, 1936 underscores just that:
The defending of umpires furnished the outstanding news from the Kitty League during the past week.
Dr. Bassett, president of the Kitty League, engaged a spectator in a fast setto of fisticuffs during the Paducah-Hopkinsville series when the onlooker made a disparaging remark concerning Kitty League umpires.
The Kitty League president spotted the spectator some twenty years and still got decidedly the better of the fracas, scoring one clean-cut knockdown and many, many punches that were effective.
