Owensboro Tips Paducah As She Enters League
Owensboro, after a 20 year absence from organized baseball, returned today as a member of the Kitty League, taking over the Portageville, Mo., franchise and in her debut at South Side Park against the Paducah Indians, champions of the first half, won out in a hard fought contest, 7 to 6.
Gassaway, who relieved Helvey on the mound in the third inning, held the visitors to three hits and three runs. He also contributed to the scoring with a home run in the eighth over the right field fence.
Paducah made four consecutive singles in the second inning, but failed to score a run.Grimes and Cropenbaker singled, Ivy singled to short center and Grimes was thrown out at the plate on a close play. Cropenbaker was thrown out at third base attempting to steal.Hayes singled and Cannon ended the inning when he hit to Fox and was thrown out at first.
