Fulton Loses In Ninth

Staging a ninth inning rally, the Owensboro Pirates overcame a two-run deficit to defeat the Fulton Eagles 6-5 here today in a wild finish that saw Kid Elberfield stormily protest McDonald’s decision at home plate that ended the game.

With the score tied, the bases loaded and none out Gregory hit a roller to the second baseman who tossed to Catcher Clonts. Clonts failed to touch the plate and did not tag the runner until he had crossed the plate, everybody was safe.

The victory was the ninth in a row for the Bucs and the second in three days for pitcher Bob Helvey, who replaced Gassaway on the mound at the start of the eighth.
